Another Year to Celebrate

The joy of being alive is incomparable despite poverty, struggles, torture and pain. It isn’t easy to experience difficulties, but still it is worth the fight.  Every single moment of our life is a reminder of the unending grace God has bestowed upon us. The continuous battle you and I are facing will never come to an end, because tests and life lessons persist until death. Only death and God can judge us whether we have used our talents and time wisely breathing on this complex yet beautiful World created by our Divine Designer.

As the year is coming to an end, we remember the good deeds we have done for ourselves, family, neighbors and society.  Have we done enough to love ourselves and let that love radiate towards others? Did we heal ourselves of our wounds and hatred so that we may be able to heal others in the process? Have we forgiven ourselves for the mistakes committed so that we may be able to forgive those who have hurt us? Because love starts within us; mending broken hearts starts by bringing pieces together, sharing peace is achieved by being in harmony with ourselves.

As I recently celebrated my 27th year on Earth, I also have remembered the cross I carried. How much struggle I have successfully conquered? It wasn’t possible doing it all alone. I was able to carry it through the support of family, friends, neighbors and God. All those failures and difficulties were nothing compared to the will of the mind and spirit with my God. I don’t think it was really possible for me to reach this far without His support. I may have been alone all those years but not so really. Previously I have failed to acknowledge His presence, relying only to my instinct and desires.  Those were my darkest moments. I have seen happiness on the faces of material wants; I have associated money with contentment, power with strength and self-gratification with joy. But none of these were permanent.

The real joy is brought about by sharing your life with someone or something for a greater purpose. It is not so much about being served but by serving others. Not by receiving gifts but by giving more. Not by self-fulfillment but societal-sustainability. Not by being alone but with others. Not by closing doors but opening hearts. Not by inflicting harm but helping fellow humans.

This sounds ideal but wouldn’t it be great if we are able to achieve such a major feat? Teaching ourselves contentment from the least we have but with a big heart is more than enough to cure the bitterness of this World. Bitterness brought about by greed, unforgiving, hard-headedness, pride and evil. If we are only ready and willing enough to accept that we are all responsible for one another, can bring an enormous change. That we are able to realize that much responsibility is given to those in advantage, and how they use that power is paramount to kindness.
