Securing a Philippine Passsport: My DFA Tuguegarao Experience
I decided to secure and process my passport application today. The not so hot weather (cloudy to rainy) is conducive for processing-- at least in Tuguegarao-- as a means of escape from the scorching, uncomfortable heat of the sun. So let me share to you the requirements, steps and waiting time you expect in passport processing based on my account.
First things first, arrive at the DFA Office at Carig Sur on time, preferrably morning since most applicants flock in the later part of the day. The office is beside Tuguegarao City Hall and the Philippine Statistics Authority where one can obtain his/her Birth Certificate. Next, look for the office security guard and secure an application form. Completely fill out the information required on the paper. Most importantly do not misspell your name and please indicate your gender (haha, just fill it out completely). Afterwards, attach all needed documents as supporting evidence to verify your identity. Certified copy of birth certificate (original + xerox copy) issued by NSO is necessary as well as two valid government IDs. Other supporting documents such as transcript of records, diploma, PRC Board certificate, NBI clearance and the like may also be presented. The information processing center located just beside the guard's station will check your requirements and will collect it for further processing. You will then be instructed to wait for your name to be announced for the next step. It took me 20-30 minutes waiting period before proceeding to Step 2.
Step 2 takes 15-20 minutes of processing. Once your name is called, line up and wait for further instructions. The staff will just put marks on the paper and ask for verification. That's it, you will be asked to wait again (takes 15 minutes) for step 3.
Step 3 include encoding of information, thumb marking and picture taking. This is the longest waiting time since the queue is just so long. Besides we only have one encoder. Fortunately I have brought a reading material to kill time. I am too engage with my reading that I was completely unaware of the time. On the average, it took me about half an hour before my turn for encoding. The encoding and verifying of information will just take 10 minutes. If you are a senior citizen, person with disability or are pregnant, special services are offered. No need to line up, fast processing ensues.
Step 4 is also another easy task. It's "the payment" time. You will be charge Php. 950 for the service provided. A receipt and claim stub is issued, and be sure to return back on the said date stated on the stub. Thirty working days from the date of application is the processing time. A 3-weeks delay can also occur depending on the circumstances as explained by the information center. So around August 27 to September 15 would be our expected date to claim our passport.
In summary, passport application in Tuguegarao is satisfactory. Services provided and waiting time is tolerable. It took me two hours to complete all four steps of the application process.
Good Luck on your application too!
