THE POWER OF WORDS

Words when carefully chosen has the potential to touch a person's life. When someone does something right, he deserves a validation. When somebody exceeded your expectations, he surely has to be praised. But all too often we seem to miss a lot of opportunities to acknowledge others' achievement. Most of the time we speak ill-things. We magnify the flaws of other people oblivious of their kindness.

Words like shit, fuck, die bitch, asshole, stupid, idiot, ukinam/ putang-ina has become a part of our daily vocabulary. We yell at one another, spread rumors from each other, spit hate and anger. Little by little, we are losing the true spirit of humanity. We have become self-consume by the idea of "I", "me", "myself". We have long forgotten that there are other people beyond the "me"-- it's as if "I am" is the only being in this planet. Our patience became shorter, our temperament lose its balance. We became rude in our self-profess ego-centered desire for greed. We became predators competing for fame, wealth and power.

Meaningless words fill our daily conversations. On the average, we communicate to instruct, to ask for directions, to correct, to mandate, to set schedule, but rarely to connect. When was the last time you had a heart-to-heart talk with your loved ones? Have you said "I love you" with full sincerity to your spouse, children, parents or special someone? Did you sincerely said "Thank you" or "take care" to a colleague, classmate, sibling, relative or friends?

There is nothing more noble and dignifying than uttering the right words at the right moment in the right place. Perhaps it is time to spread love than hate, to praise more often than curse, to build confidence than break, to give hope than kill. For are we not humans with emotions?

Words kill, words uplift, words in our times, Inspire, Love
A young boy's confidence is torn by verbal abuse-- a real torture.
